Steve is a
young man who came to us with an unusual amount of “wear” on his
teeth. He was aware that his teeth were getting “shorter” but was
unaware how much shorter. He, as is typical in these cases, had no
pain whatsoever. Our evaluation of Steve showed that this extreme
wear was a result of a night grinding habit caused by a bad bite.
As you can
see, when he smiled, he showed practically no teeth at all. Steve
noticed that this made him appear angry all the time in spite of
the fact he is actually a very happy person. Treatment for Steve
included crowns on all his teeth, in order to restore them to their
original length. The case is now going on 6 years old and he has
since become an advocate for comprehensive dentistry as he now
understands that without this intervention he most likely would
not have been able to keep his teeth.
My only
regret is that we hadn’t met Steve earlier. If we had, we could
have stopped the progress of his dental disease much sooner and
would not have had to be so extensive.
